Three ex-cons, including a reputed Gambino crime family associate, are suing in Brooklyn Federal Court to stop the city from canceling their crane operator licenses due to "poor moral character."
The trio, who all pleaded guilty several years ago to federal crimes, are members of Local 14-14B of the International Union of Operating Engineers, a union allegedly controlled for decades by the Mafia.
Gene Panessa, James Mascarella, and reputed mob associate William Duffy, claim their civil rights will be violated if a revocation hearing goes forward, and are also seeking more than $2 million in damages.
