Trial Set For Aging Mobster After Failed Craigslist Scam
A trial has been set for an aging, down on his luck mobster after being arrested for attempting to rob a man trying to sell a diamond engagement ring.
Police arrested 65-year-old Gerald Degerolamo after witnesses saw Degerolamo spray a man with mace who was selling a diamond engagement ring.
Degerolamo had found the seller, David Cushman, on Craigslist and set up a meeting on Christopher Street to buy the ring on Dec. 26.
In his mafia heyday, Degerolamo, an associate of the Lucchese crime family, pulled off a daring $3 million armored car heist. That was 1989.
Then he escaped from a federal prison, only to be caught after another armored car heist, a so called “Trojan Horse Scheme,” which involved hiding a very small mobster inside a crate that was shipped to the armored car company so he could scoop up cash.
