Italy: Assests Worth Over 500 Million Euros Seized From Jailed Mafia Boss
Police on Tuesday seized assets worth over 500 million euros from jailed Sicilian mafia boss Lucca Sicula. The assets include real estate, vehicles, current and savings accounts, police said.
Police impounded the assets on the orders of a court in Agrigento after anti-mafia investigators noted a sharp discrepancy between Sicula's declared earnings and the value of the criminal activities carried out by the Sicula and associated Ribera mafia clans.
Investigators say Sicula is "a heavy-weight personality" who is one of the main mafia bosses in the area surrounding the southern Sicilian city of Agrigento.
He was in February 2010 sentenced to 11 years and four months in prison for mafia association.
