Rhode Island man accused of running gambling ring gets bail
A man charged with running an illegal sports-betting ring that included three reputed members of the New England mob has been granted bail.
The Rhode Island attorney general's office says Vincent Tallo was granted $130,000 surety bail on Friday. The 49-year-old was arrested May 6 after state police said they spent months investigating and unraveling the suspected ring.
Thomas Connors, a lawyer for Tallo, says his client has posted bail. Connors says his client denies the charges against him.
Police say wiretap evidence shows that the ring took in nearly $400,000 in illegal bets between fall 2010 and the arrest.
Also arrested were three men police say are made members of the Patriarca crime family: Frank "Bobo" Marrapese, Jr.; Edward Lato and Alfred "Chippy" Scivola.
