Troubled Philly mobster gets 5 years for racketeering
A man described by authorities as a lieutenant in the Philadelphia mob has been sentenced to 4 3/4 years in prison on a racketeering conviction.
Fifty-year-old Martin Angelina, who was sentenced Monday in federal court to 57 months in prison, acknowledged last month that he operated illegal poker machines and used extortionist tactics to collect a $6,700 debt.
The indictment described Angelina, who has served several stints in prison, as a "capo," or lieutenant, of "Uncle Joe" Ligambi.
Ligambi, alleged underboss Joseph Massimino and seven others are set for trial in October; trials for three other defendants haven't been scheduled.
Angelina's plea agreement doesn't call for him to testify against his associates. Guilty pleas by two other defendants, Martin "Marty" Angelina and Gaeton Lucibello, also don't call for them to cooperate.
