Uncle Joe and the Philly mob's retrial postponed until October
A judge agreed
Thursday to postpone the retrial of reputed Philadelphia mob boss Joseph
Ligambi and two others until October after lawyers in the case cited
scheduling conflicts.
After a conference with federal prosecutors and defense lawyers, U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno agreed to move the trial from April to mid-October. The actual date has not been finalized.
Jurors last month acquitted Ligambi on counts of loan-sharking, theft, and bookmaking but deadlocked on the more serious racketeering charge against him and two reputed mob captains, George "Georgie" Borgesi and Anthony "Ant" Staino.
Three others, including alleged underboss Joseph "Mousie" Massimino, were convicted of racketeering and are scheduled to be sentenced in May. The retrial will include two new codefendants, Eric Esposito and Robert Ranieri, who had been awaiting separate trials.
