Son of Vinny Gorgeous busted for pot smuggling scheme
He had it mailed, authorities said. Then got nailed.
The son of a notorious crime boss was busted Wednesday after an alleged scheme to smuggle $65,000 worth of weed through the U.S. Postal Service went up in smoke, officials said.
Joseph Basciano, 27 — whose father Vincent "Vinny Gorgeous" Basciano is serving two life terms at a supermax prison in Colorado — tried to create his own Cannabis Express by having 13 pounds of pot shipped to him from California, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Instead, the younger Basciano and alleged co-conspirators Leonard Filippone, 32, and Andrew Reid, 24 got pinched.
The trio was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, attempted criminal possession of marijuana and conspiracy. Each man faces up to four years in prison, if convicted.
Vincent Basciano was convicted and sentenced to life for the murder of Frank Santoro and later convicted of ordering the murder of mob associate Randolph Pizzolo.
The once-dapper gangster also wrote a "hit list" containing the names of a federal judge, prosecutor and cooperating witnesses, authorities said.
