Gambino mob rat encourages New Jersey to legalize sports gambling
Mob informer John Alite (l.) says New Jersey should go all in on sports betting.
Mob informer John Alite,
once best pal to ex-mob boss John A. "Junior" Gotti, says legalized
sports gambling for New Jersey would not be a bridge too far.
The former Gambino family associate — in an interview for “60 Minutes Sports” — encouraged Gov. Chris Christie to double down on his longshot bid for Garden State sports betting.
“I think they should,” said the confessed mob killer-star informant.
“If that can help people in the community for their taxes . . . why not?
Gambling is going on anyway.”
Alite, who blamed his old best man Gotti for eight murders as a
government witness, said legalized sports betting wouldn’t cut a penny
from the mob’s massive gambling profits.
“They won’t even put a dent in it,” said Alite, 51, in the interview airing Wednesday on Showtime.
Alite said he made a profit every year for 22 years while working as a mob bookie — including a profitable stretch in New Jersey.Christie and leaders of the state Legislature hope the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn the federal law blocking New Jersey from legal sports betting at tracks and casinos.
